Grupo Intur - formerly BHD Real Estate - has developed and built
several of the most important housing
projects in the Dominican Republic, thus
helping to alleviate the country's housing
shortage problem and to satisfy demand
in the middle to high market segments.
Furthermore, it has made major contributions to the modernization
of the Dominican real estate market,
by partnering with the renowned American
real estate firm Coldwell Banker and
introducing the most advanced marketing
and sales techniques to the country.
Grupo Intur's resort business division is headed by the Coral
Hotels and Resorts hotel chain, which owns and
operates four beach resort hotels in
the Dominican Republic, together
offering about 4 thousand rooms under
the all-inclusive regimen.
In 2003, Coral Hotels and Resorts formed
a strategic alliance with Hilton International
to create the Coral
by Hilton brand name, thereby projecting
it globally through Hilton's
marketing and distribution network. Coral
is also the owner of the Hilton
Santo Domingo hotel, which
is operated by Hilton
International in the Dominican
capital.
Although Grupo Intur was incorporated in December 2005, its subsidiary
units have more than 20 years of experience
in the national and international markets,
previously as a part of the BHD Group,
one the most prestigious Dominican financial
institutions, with interests principally
in banking and insurance.
In the BHD Group shareholders' assembly, held on December 19, 2005,
the members agreed to create a new organization
that would group its real estate and
hospitality units, separating them judicially
and in securities from their financial
holdings, in accordance with the best
international practices.
In this fashion, Grupo Intur not only began its operation as the
proprietor of important real estate and
hospitality companies, but also inherited
the business traditions of the BHD Group,
which for three decades has been a driving
force in the economic and social growth
of the Dominican Republic. Grupo Intur
has the support of over 1,400
shareholders at the forefront of which
are several major Dominican Corporations.
